Mat is best installed vertically, top down like wallpaper. GENTLY place the leading edge of adhesive side of mat at top of wall square and plumb onto the surface to be tiled. Lightly lift the mat to reposition if needed. When top position is square and plumb, lightly smooth and press the mat downward. Then trim with utility knife where meets the countertop.

It can be.  It’s just harder to do because coiled mat wants to curl back on itself. Hanging horizontally while on the roll is easier but still not as easy as installing vertically.  Installing horizontally in a shower/tub wall application is never recommended.

The adhesive is the same on both sides and is consistent no matter which side or direction the mat is installed.

Gently applied mat may be lifted away from the wall and repositioned to the desired position.  If the mat has been repositioned several times and is no longer adhering to the wall, the adhesive may become compromised.  A fresh piece of mat is required.

Metal trim may be installed with staples or other fasteners and then mat applied right over the area that the tile is places. Alternatively, metal trim may be applied with mat on the back or the mat may be installed and the metal trim set onto the mat. Then a small strip of mat can be added onto the trim where the tiles are set.

Mat is intended to provide a permanent bond.  To remove, pry up a corner of the mat using a putty knife, gently pull mat back while applying LOW heat from a hair dryer. (Note: high heat will make adhesive gummy making removal more difficult.)  Removal of mat will likely cause damage to wall.  If the tile can be successfully removed, fresh mat or mortar may be applied over old mat.

Wall was likely not fully clean and/or dry.  Pry up unadhered areas using putty knife.  Gently pull mat back while applying low heat from a hair dryer, if necessary.  Clean and dry wall. Apply new mat.

The release liner backing is made of paper.  Exposure to humidity sometimes causes the disposable paper to bubble and/or wrinkle but it does not affect the mat that is adhered to the wall.   When ready to tile, remove the backing and continue with installation instructions.

Air was trapped behind the mat during installation.  Use a utility knife to cut a slit in the center of the bubble. Use your hands or grout float to push air toward the slit from the edges of the bubble.  If waterproofing is desired, cover the slit with Seam Tape.
