Very sticky stuff! My glass tiles have a mesh backing and it did pretty well holding the groups of tiles in place. The only time I struggled was when the back of the tile was only partially covered with mesh and the tile was small. I had to tear off the mesh. You have to be REALLY careful when sticking the tile into place and make sure you use spacers otherwise good luck ripping the tile off the wall and moving it.
I utilized the tile mat for a glass tile mosaic backsplash. It was very easy to use and made placing the tiles a breeze. I followed the instructions and ensured the wall was clean then began adding the mat and tile. Since I’m only doing pieces at a time I wait to add the adhesive to the wall till I’m ready to add the cut tile then put it all up and grout it. It’s easy to cut and place around outlets and corners and there’s no mess from mortar. It’s been up for a week and is still holding strong!
Used this to lay new tiles over existing ones around our fireplace. We used 6×6″ tiles that were about 1 pound each. It was pretty easy to reposition the tiles when we needed to, until that point you pressed them down. then it is fairly difficult to budge them (but that is the point of the matting, to hold them in place) It worked very well for our application but I can see how it might be difficult to get this matting set in place when its not a long, straight and equal size surface.
This product allows you to skip the tile set/mortar mess and get right to the application. It was easy to apply and seems to have good adhesion. You can adjust the tiles if you do it before you press them into the foam. I would use this again for wall application in non-shower areas.
At the end of a full remodel project on my childhood home, we made a decision to introduce tile in the form of a kitchen backsplash. I’ve always hired someone for tile work, but decided to give it a go myself. Used Musselbound and premixed grout. Could not have been happier with the outcome and wonder why anyone would go through all the mess of a traditional install. Great product and great outcome if I may say so myself. Used a mosaic and it worked great. Some tiles were wobbly due to it being an uneven plaster wall. Not this products fault. After it was grouted looks wonderful. Don’t listen to negetive reviews not aurw what they were doing wrong but this was a true time saver and easy to use. This actually shocked me that it worked so well. Just make sure to push for 5-10 secs on each are to ensure proper adhesion. Added before and after pics.
I did a side-gig backsplash and decided to try this adhesive mat to reduce the total job time and limit the number of visits to the house. Wow, this was fast and clean! I had the stove pulled out, set the tile, immediately grouted that area, and put the stove back in place right away. How awesome is that! Like any product we have to live with the portions they are sold in. But I do wish there was at least one more option larger or smaller. I needed 18sqft, the roll is only 15sqft, but the extra money for a second roll was worth it. – My own house will need 34sqft.
Now I only used this for a small backsplash in my guest bathroom. Application area was approximately 6″ x 48″ but it worked wonderfully. The strip had to be cut with a chop saw but was not too difficult to do. It went up on the wall very easily and the tile went on it very easily as well. This would probably be a costly option on a larger area but for my needs, it was money well spent.
Easy to use. Not forgiving once the tile is firmly pressed on. Make sure you wipe down your walls and let it dry before you apply a bonding mat. Same for your tile wipe and let dry completely. Use a degreaser type cleaner around the wall stove area. Look for waves in your wall and fix before you start. Apply bonding mat from top to bottom, not parallel to your counter top. This is not like using thin set, where you can adjust the tile after it is placed. When setting tile, use light pressure on corners to adjust as necessary. Once it is where you want it press firmly and pray you don’t have to remove it. This stuff is sticky and bonds well.
