READ THE DIRECTIONS. Can’t stress that enough. Musselbound is waterproof, which makes it a no-brainer for countertops and backsplash. The long roll is easy to put down in one continuous piece. I also bought a cheap $90 Skil wet saw for my project. I did a total of 5 countertops – one of them an L shape bar – over 3 days. Had never set tile before but I’m handy and determined so decided to go for it. The results are gorgeous. Definitely on an island top you need to carefully practice the layout because both edges are exposed – you don’t want it to look uneven. Product is expensive compared to thin set mortar but way cheaper than paying a professional to install the tile. Be sure to wipe the backs of the tiles and allow ample time for drying. Also – its worth attending the free tile classes at Lowe’s or their competitor before installing tile for the first time.

After debating for a while I decided to install the kitchen backsplash my self and using this product made it so much easier to install the tile. I have to say that I was a little nervous at first because I did not want to ruin my wifes kitchen but after setting the first sheet of tile on the mat boy was I impressed by how good it holds on to the tiles. I don’t understand why people are giving it such bad reviews these product works great!! No problems whatsoever just remember to clean and prep the surface real good before laying the mat, I believe that’s the secret!

Great product for kitchen tiling to eliminate the mess of mastic.

Used this for a kitchen backsplash a week ago and found it incredibly easy to use! Was able to grout same day. It was a “reveal” for my daughter-in-law so imperative that it get done one day so I could caulk the next before she got home! So far, so good and it’s still up and she loves it!

This is a fast way to complete a back splash. I just wish it came in a larger roll as an option. I’ve tiled over a backsplash using this without a challenge.

Just completed our second project with MusselBound. Used it before on a smaller project for a bathroom sink, back splash and loved it. This time we decided to take on the kitchen, in addition to not having the mess and extra work of mixing and applying mortar, the newly included spacers made this bigger project much easier. Tile looks great, and was simple and easy to do.

The adhesive is super strong and seems like it’s gonna hold up well over time. The only downside was that once I placed a tile, it was very difficult to change placement. It immediately stuck. We’ll be using this in our bathroom next.

Kitchen applications

I am so glad we gave this a try! We used it for glass tile in our kitchen.

Just purchased a house and kitchen needed an update and new backsplash. Saw this product at Lowes and wanted to complete project over weekend. Had picked up some tile with mesh back which was easy to cut and adjust. Musselbound worked great. Was easy to use and being not so handy was great to not have to mix any mortar. Product applied to kitchen wall easily and was able to grout tile right after. Musselbound was easy to cut to work around electrical outlets and had project finished in just a few hours.

I was hesitant to use this product at first, but I REALLY hate the mortar stage of laying tile so decided to go for it. IT’S AWESOME! Just make sure you read all directions before you begin, and make sure your knife is new and you have extra blades in case they dull. Also, PRESS VERY HARD once you are sure the position of the tiles are correct. I did my kitchen and bathroom with this and am about to use it again on a new house.
